Hello and welcome to our QSS Blog!

Over 500 years. That’s the total amount of experience the QSS team have. Sure, we could just list the railway history but would that not make for a tedious read? Our aim is to make our blogs interesting, just like our company. The QSS Group’s history stretches far back in the rail industry, with members of our team spending large proportions of their working lives within rail, which is great for us! Railway heritage is rich in Derbyshire and it is evident that the heritage is still an identity associated with this city, as Derby recently celebrated 175 years of railway heritage. The development of an industrial Victorian city to the modern railway, Derby remains a key piece in the industry.

‘The railway transformed the world’. Such a powerful statement that can be open to debate, but to be part of a company that supports the railway through our health and safety services is very rewarding! In my view, this statement holds a lot of truth. The invention of the first train was the missing link to connecting one country to another. Before the train, the world was a very difficult thing to navigate with only a few able to travel any distance, something that is unimaginable in the business world we live in today, at one point the unthinkable is now an everyday occurrence. The railway is not a modern invention, but dates back to a time when even the rails were made of materials such as wood, hard to imagine with the technology available to us today!

Steam trains or diesel trains? A question that can divide the masses, with individuals missing the sounds and connotations of a steam train with our now hybrid diesel variants, coupled with new technology developing at an astounding rate, it was inevitable that the rail industry would follow suit, combine this with health and safety and we have one of the world’s safest forms of transport. Today many still want to relive the era of the magical steam train, in our constantly developing world this is now confined to a few heritage lines and with visions of faster, safer and more environmentally friendly trains on the drawing boards these lines will soon be confined to the history books. No one can predict the future but working for a company so closely linked to the railway is an exciting experience, to learn about and watch developments first- hand is intriguing, so who knows where the railway will be in 5 years let alone 50 years, but I can’t wait to find out!
