Safety Management Systems (SMS)

Managers with safety responsibilities within an organisation are responsible for the implementation, development and review of Safety Management Systems to be able to apply the principles of health and safety effectively. However, if a SMS is not navigable or integrated with other internal systems, the potential for catastrophic failure is increased.

Integrated Systems

QSS have the skills to develop and implement integrated management systems bringing together your Quality, Environmental and Health and Safety Systems into a single unified system of which the benefits are:

  • Reduced cost of system maintenance
Integration will expose areas of duplication and conflict within a system
  • Reduced cost of auditing
To audit separate systems costs more money, by auditing an integrated system is more cost effective and time effective
  • Improved Safety Culture
Integration of any system means that all areas of an organisation buy into the process, objectives are set and agreed, cultural issues such as motivation and morale improve

Principles of Safety Management

Principles of safety management systems are continually developing. There are a number of publications currently available e.g HSG65 Successful Health & Safety Management, which can be purchased from the HSE. However, these will only provide standard principles that will need to be interpreted to fit the company’s requirements.

QSS Approach

QSS recognise the value of these publications, but consider that they lack the definition and clarity to enable a company to fully develop management principles for their own personal systems. Improved definition and clarity developed by us can enable integration with other systems.

QSS offers to provide the clarity to a company through processes that they have developed over a number of years and which have proved very successful within other companies.

Benefits

Your organisation will see the immediate effects of visibility of your system. QSS believe that principles should be unique to the company in question and should be developed as an ongoing progess.
