OHSAS 18001 Safety Management Systems Introduction The OHSAS 18001 specification was originally developed in response to demand for a recognisable occupational health and safety management system against which management systems can be assessed and certified. Now a British Standard, OHSAS 18001 is compatible with ISO 9001 (Quality Management Systems) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems) as all three are based on the methodology known as Plan-Do-Check-Act. This means that management systems for quality, safety and environment can now be developed into an integrated system, the safety element of which can be certified to the OHSAS 18001 standard.
